Question

Hello!
(NEW MEMBER!)
I can't get an infra red connection between my VPL and my phone (Ericsson R320s here in UK). I want to use avantgo wirelessly. VPL keeps telling me 'modem not found'. I think I've got the 'connections' prefs box set correctly and I've tried different baud rates and init. strings (I think it should be ATZ) but haven't got a connection yet. And yes, I do have IR enabled on both devices!
Anybody have a similar setup? do I need more software?
Thanks in advance for your help and keep this great website going :-)

I use a VPR and T28/DI28, which should be similar. In the Connection Prefs, my setup is:
Connection Method:IrComm to Modem
Speed:57,600
Init: ATZ,AT&F

Make sure you are not running any overclocking hacks, as these botch IR. You will also have to play with different distances between the phone and Visor. Hope this helps.

Unhappy Update

OK, the phone works with my friend's psion 5mx and my girlfriend's m100 (with exactly the same settings as my VPL).
They both have infra red phones and my VPL works with neither. I can't beam between the m100 and VPL either (beam receive is on in both cases). I have experimented with distances/angles and nothing seems to work, and I have now seen 2 other devices working with the phone so I have an idea where it should be. I do have fastCPU v1.2 on Xmaster but I had it disabled as I was aware of the overclocking issues. So it looks like it is a hardware problem, unless somebody out there has a suggestion, am I missing something obvious?
Thanks

Disable everything, do a soft reset, and try again. If you have a backup module, let the thing sit for 15 minutes with no batteries, restore, and try again... Overclocking can REALLY screw up the IR sometimes. But at this point, it's pretty safe to say you've got a bum IR port. Has it ever worked? I've had problems with a visor IR port: on my first solo...

Also, what range are you trying at? For me, 2-3 feet is about optimum...

Smile FIXED!!

All hacks had been disabled so I thought the next step was to delete them all, although I didn't see how it would work, but hey- what did I have to lose. ps I had already tried several soft/warm resets.
Hacks I have (had!) - fastCPU, fonthack and inverthack.
I disabled all fonts thinking I was clever then deleted everything from the launcher delete menu. tried IR again and it didn't work - no suprise. Then I tried a soft reset, at this point I think my trusty VPL was trying to tell me something- it wouldn't boot up again- I just kept getting the palm computing logo then erase all data.....? No button would respond and the thing was completely locked out - it wanted me to do a hard reset.
After the h/r i realised that this was the best time to test the ir - i entered network & connection settings, pressed connect and hey presto - just as it should have been!
So I hotsynced it and after deleting one thing at a time + hotsyncing + soft + warm reset X 5 and had all my data back and was finally ready for wireless!
Sorry for the long post but I think that I shoud have put as much detail in as possible to help with future problems.
The moral of the story is- if something doesn't work - hotsync and hard reset to test - the less there is in memeory, the less there is to conflict.
Thanks again for your help and ideas folks!
