-- Site Suggestions (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=4382)
First of all, I would like to thank the VisorCentral staff for creating and maintaining this great site. I thought once I received my Visor I probably wouldn't use the site much, but about two and a half months later, I still visit the discussion area almost every day.
That said, I have a couple of comments and suggestions that I think would improve the site.
It seems like the "Latest Reviews" and "Latest Articles" sections are the most prominently displayed sections on the home page, but, as those don't change very frequently, I usually first glance at the "Visornews" and "around the web" sections to see if anything new and interesting has been posted. Then I usually go to the discussion area and browse a little. In short, it seems a little like the most prominently displayed sections are in the way of what I want to see, while the "navigation bar" at the top is almost hidden. Also, I think the home page could have a cleaner look.
What about emphasizing the main areas of the site a little more? You could do something like on the American Funds site www.americanfunds.com , prominent graphics representing the major areas, with a few text links below. I also like how it displays a description of what is in each area when you move over each icon. Or even a single picture with areas representing the different site areas and some text links around it. Then you could have fewer links to news, articles, etc. on the main page, making it less cluttered, but it still feels easy to access the older stuff.
I think most people visit VisorCentral for the discussion area. Why not emphasize your strengths? I think it would be really cool if you had a little "What people are talking about" section (on the main page) that showed the topics that are generating the most discussion. I think it would be awesome if you listed the top 10 topics and had links directly to those threads from the main page, and updated the list maybe once a day. Maybe someone could even go through and try to find the most interesting quote from the discussion boards for the previous 24 hours and display it on the main page as a "Quote of the Day" or something.
Just a few thoughts. Again, I think the site is great and thank the staff for their efforts.
