Sniffer software for Xircom Ethernet Module?

Has anyone come across a program that "finds" SSID's? I know that there are some available for WinCE devices, and of course regular PC's, but haven't seen anything for the Palm OS. I remember reading a while back (may have been someones wishful thinking) that in one of the future firmware updates for the Xircom that this sort of thing would be included. I wonder if it would take something like this to really give the Xircom this sort of feature. Sure would be nice to have especially when traveling.

On another note, any idea why the batteries take such a beating if you leave the ethernet module on the Visor, even when it's all off?? I hate having to unplug it all the time. Thanks

Sniffer for Xircom?

I recently acquired a springport and I am wondering the same thing about sniffers...

Has anyone been able to connect to a public network - say at an airport or Starbucks? Any instructions for this would be much appreciated.

I just got a response back from Intel about the subject. Since this is a discontinued product they don't plan any new software releases for it, that's the ist of it anyway. Whichj is really unfortunate for those of us that travel and want to connect to various "free" access points without knowing the SSID beforehand.

I guess I'll be buying a SyChip WLAN6060SD (SD sized WiFi card) once they come out, to use in my Palm 500 series. That is if it works the same as the new Tungsten C. The TC will find all access points for you and let you try to connect to the one of your choice. Not being familiar with writing programmes for the Palm OS, I don't know if it would be possible to write something to query the Springport WiFi as to what it detects.
