PCS Digital Link software upgrade?
Just got a PCS Digital Link on 12/31 and I like it a lot. My question is how to get the phone software that is described in the new (SB3000) manual on the SprintPCS web site! The PDF manual there describes options that I don't have.
In particular there is a new "Any Key Answer" option that I would love, since it sounds like it would fix my most disliked bug in the UI: One has to press the softkey "Answer" to answer the phone; None of the external buttons on the springboard module nor the power button on the VDX will answer the phone if it is ringing.
It looks as if Sprint PCS is selling something new, or that I bought an old model of Digital Link.
TIA -- DaveS

quote:Are you talking about the manual you can download when you login to your Account Manager at SprintPCS? If so, take a close look at the manual... it's not for the SB3000 but something called an RECON LG 3000. I pointed this out in an email to their customer care back when I reviewed the Digital Link and never got a reply from them. I've got a PDF version of the manual (and can't remember where it came from

You are correct
AHA -- I read further in the PDF (indeed the one from my account page) and on p 26-27 there are pics of a "Sprint PCS Phone". The screen icons look rather like WinCE on p27.
I was misled by the bogus labels on the SprintPCS web site. The link to the manual is labelled "Get your Airprime SB3000 Reference Manual" and the frame labelled "My Phone" is labelled "Airprime SB3000" which I think is the OEM name of the Digital Link.
www.airprime.com is explicit about this: The pic of the SB3000 is the Sprint PCS Digitial Link. Perhaps AirPrime is doing the same app for WinCE, and the Sprint web site developers are just a bit confused about what goes where.
Correction: To answer the phone on the Digital Link, you *can* press the phone-app button if the VDX is off, and it answers the call. So I take back that criticism of the UI.
Thanks, Mark -- DaveS
The labels aren't bogus... just the links.
The phone that goes with that downloaded manual is the Sprint PCS TP 3000, a PDA-like phone, but more like a fancy PIM.
Sorry, I forgot about the Phone App button working to answer the phone. By the way, it works whether the Visor is on or off.
