at Staples, be sure to scan the price..

at my Staples here, the hang tag still says $129. Take it to the checkout, and it will scan $49.

Got One! and Compuserve?

Got one of the modems at Staples here in Socal, Orange County. The salesman was quite impressed that I knew this....told him I got it here at VisorCentral!

Anyhow, now I have it at home, tried to configure as directed, and cannot get it to work with the old compuserve email account. I can read, but cannot send out.....any advice?

thanks

Thumbs up Found a stash of 'em in Detroit Rock City!

Metro Detroit, anyway... the Staples store on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, to be exact. I was back home for Mom's Day and stopped in to look for HSM. Nobody knew what I was talking about (even after I found about four of them on a clearance table toward the back of the store). Sho'nuff, $129.99 price tag rang-up as $49.90! Downloaded the free Blazer and was up-and-surfing in no time. This thing is pretty sweeeeeeeeet! Though a tad slow when using 16 shade Gray-scale, the graphics on my Plat are phatt! Thanks for the original post. PS: Found a retractable 8-foot phone cord at Walgreen's for $12 (much smaller than the included 6-foot cord.

After reading these posts, I checked the 'Net, and found the website showing them for $99.90. Yuck, but expected.

I used 'find a store' to locate the nearest stores and started to call. None of the local stores had one, but a clerk at one of them offered to check their on-line inventory and found a stash several states away.

Called there, and not only do they have a few, but they are now ringing up at $29.90! (Yes- go ahead and read it twice!)

I asked if they could ship me one, and had to speak to the manager, who will have to speak to HIS manager to figure out how to do this- but he assured me it was do-able!

The trick seems to be to find stores big enough to have stocked a handful of these, but out of the way enough to still have some left.

Thanks folks!

I've been following this thread and checking Staples each week. As soon as I read here that the price went down again, I headed over to my local Staples and got one for $29.90! I even had a $10 off $40 coupon, so added an extra $10 of stuff that was essentially free. By the way, the hang tag still said $129.

In my area Staples has oversaturated - I have 3 within about 10 minutes and another 3 within 30 minutes away.

Although I have the supplynet cable to dial with my Sprint phone, I know some hotels where I have found the Sprint service is lousy, so I can now use the modem as an alternate.

Now if only they weren't charging for Blazer!

Sorry I haven't checked here in a while:

www.cables4pdas.com

They've got it all - match your cell phone w/ your pda - they even have straight forward directions for making it work.

Staples Handspring modem for $29 on their Web-site

After reading this latest post, I checked Staples Web-site, and sure enough the modem is now $29.90 plus shipping and local tax, online. My total was $41.07, with New York area high sales tax plus $7.95 one business day UPS. I ordered one on Friday afternoon and it will be at my home on Monday. This is a good deal for a backup modem, no matter what else you use (I use Omnisky/Ministrel).

Staples website now shows them out of stock. I was able to grab three modems at one of our local Staple's, but the other two are out of stock.

Try this...

Buy two and return one for full price at another store
