Digital Link outside of US
I am wondering if anyone has experience with using the Sprint Digital Link module outside the US? I like to use it with my Prism in Hong Kong with the Orange network. According to the Orange website, they support CDMA IS95B at 64Kb. Should I expect it to work if I buy the Digital Link here and set it up with Orange in HK? At 64kb?
I use the Visorphone when I am in HK but the data rate at 9600 is a fairly slow.
Thanks.
CDMA roaming is not as simple as GSM
You should call Sprint and ask them if they even allow international roaming on other networks. They should be able to tell you if the carrier in Hong Kong is a roaming partner and if the band you want is supported. CDMA phones in Northj America run on two bands - 900 and 1900 MHz. I know Sprint runs predominantly on the 1900MHz band but some of their phones are dual band 900/1900 so that they can roam on Verizons network which is largely 900 MHz.
The specifications for the Digital Link can be found in detail at the manufacturers site: http://www.airprime.com/sb3000.html#prod_specs
It supports these CDMA standards: IS-95 A/B, IS-98C, IS-707A, IS-637A and IS-683A Upgrades to IS-2000 1xRTT (IS-98D compatible)
And... these bands: PCS Receive Band: 1930 MHz - 1990 MHz
PCS Transmit Band: 1850 MHz - 1910 MHz
i.e. 1900 only single band.
