Question Interesting twist..

I received an e-missive from OmniSky last week to announce a Special Invitation.

quote:

Dear OmniSky Customer,

As a special thank you for being one of OmniSky's first customers, we'd like to present you with an invitation: As your six-month anniversary with OmniSky approaches, we'd like to invite you to apply your upcoming modem rebate towards a 12-month discounted subscription plan where you'll save up to 25% or $119* a year.

<Insert some marketing fluff>
quote:

To ensure that you continue to receive all the benefits of the award-winning OmniSky service, simply sign up for a 12-month contract at $359.95**. With your $200 credit, your final cost is only $159.95.

And, you'll receive your choice of OmniSky accessories, including a leather zip case or an AC adapter***. A $30 value, yours FREE.

<More marketing fluff>
quote:

*Yearly savings over a standard 12-month plan at $39.95/month (special prepaid plan equivalent to $29.95/month).

**$25 early termination fee will apply. Unused service time is non-refundable. The OmniSky accessories are yours to keep. Offer is non-transferable.

***OmniSky leather zip case available for Palm users. AC adapter available for Palm V or Handspring users.

Anyway it looks like I could get my $200 rebate for being a customer for 6 months and continue paying for service at $39 a month.

Or I could apply it towards another year of service at a discounted price.

The Standard service is: $39.95 x 12 months = $479.40
The Discounted service is: $29.95 x 12 months = $359.99
With the savings (difference) being $119.41 and by applying the $200 credit towards the discounted price I can get the service for $159.99 a year (about $13 a month). Plus I can get a freebie to boot (I think I will get another AC adapter).

Anybody else receive this offer? Did I do the math correctly? Do you think I am making a good choice since I plan to keep the service for awhile?

Sounds like a good offer. The only downside that I can see is that they charge you for a full year of service up front. And if you opt out at a later time then you loose the unused service time.

Post Two rebates

There are two different rebates being offered. The main one in this thread is the rebate that you get if you upgrade from a VDX to a Platinum ($50) or Prism ($100). When I posted my original response to this thread I had already had my OS modem for over 3 months.

The second rebate is one that you get after 6 months of service from OS. Since I was an early adopter I thought that this e-missive from OS would be of interest to people on this forum.

I agree with mmendo1, give them a call just to make sure that they have all of the required items to process your rebate.

Disregaurd my previosu request

i didn't notice someoen said to call omnisky and ask..thanks

I wonder if there is some financial instability or cash flow problem with Omnisky. This could explain the delays. I purchased in November my omnisky modem. Sent my request for $100 rebate early Jan. Called them mid March, and they said they had my paperwork, were "processing" and to wait a month. Haven't heard since. Now with this stuff about "apply your rebate towards future..." it makes me wonder...

Post I don't think so...

Well, I did get my $100 rebate and was able to cash it with no problems.

The $200 rebate is for using their service for 6 months. I think that their offer to apply it towards a full year service is a wise choice on their part. Keeps me loyal for another year, and at a price that can't be beat!!!
