E-mail

I'm not quite sure what to do about e-mail access with my Visor Prism (love it!!) and VisorPhone (love it!! though service is limited in my state) without signing up for yet another service and getting yet another address.

Here's the problem: I have e-mail at work through an intranet. At home, I have ATT/MediaOne cable. With my VoiceStream VisorPhone service, I have limited e-mail (up to 140 characters per message). That's 3 separate services and 3 separate e-mail addresses.

What I'd like to do is to use my Prism to access my work e-mails. I don't have a modem for the Prism, but would be willing to get one if it would allow me to set up on the road and read and respond to work e-mails.

Any suggestions?

Your Visorphone is a modem for your Visor!

Define a dialup using the Prefs application. Network options, and try connecting to your company's dial up.

Depending on what your company use (POP or IMAP) you may need one client or other, but just look for email clients on PalmGear.

Thanks for the tip! Sounds like a good idea. Our office administrator tells me it won't work though. To access office e-mail from home, we use PC Anywhere. The office admin tells me we can't do it without that program. I think I'll try it anyway, just as soon as we get the network cleared of a miserable virus that's been driving us wild for the past few weeks.

Your office admin needs help. There are several ways you can access the office Email from home without having to rely on "PC Anywhere" - Ask him/her about the option to "leave messages on server" so you can set up the Email retrieval from home. Or, if you are using an exchange server at the office, try a VPN connection to the office with a Exchange server connection at home. If your admin can't figure it out, have him/her Email me at [email protected]. We can get this to work.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check it out. As for the office admin, she doesn't have any tech background and relies heavily on a contractor who is happy to send technicians over whenever we need help.

(I wonder why those folks are always smiling? Seems like they're pretty much always around. Time to check out that contract.)
