Question Send Mail ONLY.

I don't want to download mail to my Visor. However, I WOULD like to write mail on my Visor and send it during the next HotSync.

There have been NUMEROUS occasions, when I'm on the road and think of an email I'd like to send. I have the time to write it on my Visor and would like to do so.

How do I go about doing this?

Thanks.

Don

Go into the mail program on your Visor. Click into the Menus and goto Options, HotSync Options.

Now change it from All to Send Only. That should be all you need to do.

Did that previously and just tried it again--however, w/this setting, OE5, still tries to connect and download messages every time I HotSync even if there are no outgoing messages in my Visor.

The other thing is that when it tries to connect and download, it just hangs.

Chaning that option on the Visor does not change the action of Outlook, it only changes the information that the conduit exchanges with Outlook. Apparently, when you sync your e-mail Outlook automatically checks for new messages, not knowing that the conduit is not going to transfer them to the Visor.

I am less apt and handling the Outlook side of the options. Is there some way you could take the POP3 server name out of the options so that it would no try to connect? I had a e-mail service that had trouble with Outlook because thier server needed to authourize the user through the SMTP server before logging into the POP3 server, but Outlook always does POP3 first. I never found a way to change the order, or disable Outlook from logging into the POP server.

When you say it hangs when it tried to connect and download, are you talking about Outlook downloading from the mail server or the hotsync trying to download to the Visor from Outlook?

The only problem is that as it stands, when I HotSync, it TRIES to connect to the pop3 server but can't get through.

When I receive email directly through OE5, it works FINE.

Thanks for the effort. Anyone else?

There should be an option in OE5 called Send Immediately. If this is enabled, try turning it off.

Just tried that--no good.

For some reason, when OE tries to connect as a result of the HotSync, the "Send" isn't even on the list of tasks, it is just trying to receive (you know in the OE progress dialog).

I could be wrong, but try one, two or all three of the following:

1) In Outlook Express, if one or more of the mail "accounts" (as defined under the Tools->Accounts, Mail tab) has the "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing", then I can see how a sync can force OE to start looking for an internet connection for a POP3 retrieval. The answer? Uncheck that option for all of the accounts.

The above should also hold true for its sibling, Outlook 9x/200x, when installed with the Internet Mail option. Dunno about the Corporate or Exchange option.

2) Also check Tools->Accounts, Mail tab-> <choose your dialup account> -> Properties->Connection and uncheck the "Always connect to this account using:" checkbox.

3) The other item to uncheck in Outlook Express is the "Send and receive messages at startup", located under Tools->Options, General Tab. When that option is enabled and OE is not running when you perform a sync, the sync will force a Win API call to.... you guessed it, start up OE.

YMMV, but I'm constantly "offline" and that's how I have my machines configured and a mail sync doesn't invoke any kind of OE/Outlook POP3 or internet access on my end.

"Send Mail Only"....
It works fine when I sync at the office (I have Outlook XP on a W2kPro box).

Just won't work right at home.

Work:
Outlook configured with 2 accounts (both set to send/receive), Outlook downloads my messages every minute (I've got an always on connection. Both accounts are pop3 servers.

Home:
Outlook Express 6 configured with 5 accounts (4 are set to send/receive), also downloads every minute (cable internet). All accounts are pop3.

As far as disabling the send/receive on my accounts, I don't like that idea--I'd sooner forget about sending messages from Visor.

Thanks guys.

I don't know for sure what's going on, but now I can send mail. For some reason it still has OE6 download incoming messages (doesn't transfer them to my Visor), but at least I can send.
