Visorphone/Voicestream/NT RAS dialup

I am trying to dial into my work, which is an NT RAS setup. I go to Preferences->Network and select WINDOWS RAS, put in my username (domainname/username), password, and phone number and hit connect.

But all it does is sit at the screen that says "Dialing Windows RAS". After about a minute it just goes back to the Network screen.

I have put my home phone number in the phone number section and it does call, and I do get modem sounds when I pick up the phone.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Are you sure that your NT domain admin has given you permission to dial in?

To check this, can you set up your home PC to call into your NT domain successfully?

I do have dailin permissions. I just checked on the domain controller. Do I need encryption or anything?

I have a cable modem at my house, so I can't test a dialin from there. I am just looking for a cheap ISP to use with my visorphone.

Encryption is controlled by the RAS server, some require it, some don't, and there are different levels for those that do. Check with the administrator. I notice you have a forward slash between domain name and user name, try a backslash. Also, the RAS server has to be a member of your domain or a trusted domain in order to do domain login. A stand-alone RAS server requires a local account. Normally a bad logon attempt would present you with the "Signing On" message, then give you "Authentication failure." However, that is probably not the problem, since you are not seeing the "Signing On" message. Offhand it does seem that your modem is not establishing a connection. The RAS server has some logs that could help determine why.
