Unless this has been done, and I missed it, could we start a thread that contains model numbers of Cell Phones, and any special software/cables, that folks have *actually got working* with their visors, for email/internet functions and/or Syncing with their desktop?

I use an Ericsson CF-888 with my VDX using the IR ports (no cables or dongles). I use Cingular Wireless service (with an additional data line) and AT&T WorldNet for the ISP. I use IRLink to make the phone<-->VDX software connection.

I use a Nokia 8290 via infrared (no cable). I also use the Mobile Internet Kit (requires 3.5 OS) with my Prism and Edge to enable PQAs, SMS, etc. My carrier is Cingular in San Jose, CA.

SprintPCS/Motorola StarTAC 7867 with a homemade cable. I connect to the 'net using the Sprint QNC or through EarthLink (QNC doesn't seem to allow email to be sent ).

Startac 7868 on Verizon's data service. I can dial any one of three ISPs (all non-Verizon) to surf web, update Avantgo clips, or send/receive email using Eudora.

Good idea...

I have a Samsung 3500 throught Sprint PCS, with the MarkSpace Handspring Modem Cable (modified) and the Samsung Data Cable (Belkin brand, available at CompUSA).

Works great, finally. It took a while but thanks to everyone in the Samsung 3500 <=> Visor thread, we got our phones working.

Are you all having success with most PQA's on the Deluxe? Most of them work for me but not all... Maybe a list of ones that work well with the SureWave PQA browser would be a nice addition also...

Nokia 6185

I have successfully connected a Visor to the internet via the Nokia 6185. This is a CDMA, Sprint phone.

Here is what I did:
1) ordered a DLR-3 datacable for the Nokia 6185 (under $50)
2) ordered a DCH-M9 Visor-to-modem cable from www.markspace.com (under $40)
3) in the modem preferences, changed Flow Control setting to OFF
4) in the modem preferences, DELETED the modem string entirely (trust me)
5) plugged everything together AFTER doing #3 and #4
6) optional Signed up for Sprint Wireless Web so I didn't have to pay 39 cents a minute!

SprintPCS/Motorola Timeport P8167 with cable made by Cables4PDAs. I dial into my Verizon ISP, which is supposed to be used for a backup for when my DSL service doesn't work.

For surfing, I use the new Blazer version or Avantgo. For mail, I use Eudora. I don't do clipping, but I had used the JPS PQA browser.

It all works like a charm!

I wonder why no one is making a cable for Nextel phones. There are only about a million people who use them, lots of business users too. Maybe they figure that people with Nextels would use laptops instead.

I have a Visor Solo, a Kyocera 2035A cellphone with service from Verizon and a cable from http://www.thesupplynet.com to connect the two. It works great with Aol for Palm OS and with a standard ISP like Earthlink. I use avantgo to surf the net and aol for email. The only thing I can't get to work with the Verizon QNC service, which would be great for traveling. I suspect it has to do with Palm OS 3.1.

How about Audiovox CDM9000

I've only seen one other guy on VC mention a Sanyo cell phone, but there have to be more of us out there... anyone? anyone?

I just got my Visor->Sanyo SCP4500 cable from supplynet today. I haven't had much time to play with it, but it does seem to work as advertised. I was able to surf the web a bit with EudoraWeb, but I didn't send/receive email yet.

I used the Sprint QNC thing which worked well. You just plug in the parameters in the Visor's Network preferences and click Connect. (I'm not sure how the phone distinguishes between voice and data calls if you don't use the special QNC number.)

Speed was obviously slow (9600? 14400?) but that's fine for quick emails and mostly text-based sites. It seemed like Eudora tried to download all of usatoday.com's main page, so I'll have to investigate this WAP thing.

The only minor problem was one of my connections was dropped while I was tinkering with the email. I don't know if there's a timeout limit or if it was just a connection problem. The Visor didn't give me any message though, so I sat there for a minute wondering why things seemed slower than usual.

Not a bad deal for $40.

I'm useing a Samsung 8500 with Sprint PCS with Visor Plat. The data cable is from thesupplynet.com. I'm useing MSN and Earthlink for ISPs. I'm going between AvantGo and Blazer as my browser. I like AvantGo better.
