Discussion board changes

We will be making some changes to the discussion board shortly... It will take about a week to swap all the images and update the templates.

Thanks,

Marcus

From what I see, it just looks the same but with different icons. What's the point?

Did you read Marcus' post? It will take about a week to finish. Give it some time....

OK, even when ALL the images are swapped, I will ask the question: why?

I don't have the exact quote, but I believe it was Heracleitus (maybe Plato) who originally said, "Change is inevitable."

With VC v.3 on the way, it's a good time to do it.

Besides, spell chicken's not so helpful when so many are using homonyms!

Thanks,

Ok, so the change will take a week. But PLEASE tell me that the current mail/folder icons at the far left edge will be changed to something better. The current set are horid! With the yellow and red colors gone, it is very hard to tell which icon is which. I got confused about 10 times in the past hour of forum browsing. Please bring back the more colorful icons!

I kinda like it, my breath already feels more minty fresh! Onward and upwards my stalwart friends, onwards into the next miliniomlimnimun.
Darn spellcheck....

I've been thinking about this myself. While not wishing to dictate VC's design choices (hey, not my responsibility, I'm just visiting) I think the envelope icons could be bigger, and the gray-on-gray icons could use more contrast.

On the other hand, gray goes nicely with the graphite color scheme on my IE browser!

Everything looks good using Opera 5.11.

I saw the new icons a while ago. They aren't icons anymore, so they really aren't that practical. The old ones with the visual icons are MUCH easier to use. You don't have to read each and everyone to figure out which one to click on.

I'll have to third that. The new icons are not well-designed icons. They're pretty and all, but they don't do the job of good icons, which is to immediately communicate what they are representing. The lack of color and having too much detail tend to hinder rather than enhance the message.

I'm also not too sure what envelopes have to do with a discussion board.

Also, why is there an arrow icon next to every thread title? Isn't that a little redundant?

Just my opinion.

I'm afraid to post anything with out the spell checker.. no one could read my take on the English language.. It's the miradu2000 effect !!

For what it's worth, I don't care for the new icons either.

I agree to putting the spell checker functionality back. A lot of times I try to get a post off quickly at work, Which causes me to make quite a few mistakes (Not that I'm a great speller anyway ). The spell checker helps remedy my typos quickly.

Put it back.

Spell check should be working again... And the icons (and most of the current color scheme) will change slowly as we get ready to launch VC3.
