SWE problems

Greetings,

I have been trying to set up SWE on a Prism connecting to an Apple Airport Base Station on a small home wireless network. One desktop, one laptop and the visor. Palm OS v.3.5.2H1.5, Net Lib : v.3.2.0.d.000, SWE SW Ver. 1.13, FW Ver. 3.82. The Prism/SWE works great at work connecting to an Airport BS when I assign a static IP address and seems to log on at home when I assign a static IP address but doesn't connect to Internet with a browser. If I check the status after apparent sign on sequence (Initializing, Signing On Established), It shows Network: Not Associated and no signal strenght. IP information shows entries in every field except the DHCP Server field. Which makes sense since IP address is static but there is still no connection. Is it possible to log on to a network with a static ip address although clients are supposed to get IP addresses from a dhcp server?

DHCP doesn't seem to work at home or work. Both the laptop and desktop both access the internet wirelessly through the Airport BS using dhcp at home. When logging on with DHCP on the prism I get a 0x0302 message. According to Xircom/Intel, the error message indicates a need to check the Client Settings. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well it seems as though SWE software version 1.13 has some issues reguarding DHCP. Question is, what exactly are the problems, and how to get Xircom to acknowlage (and fix) them.

Don't use blazer

I finally got everything working (not e-mail though) I started using palmscape and stopped trying to get blazer to work. I found that blazer would send or recieve 10bytes of data and stop, when I checked the logs from wingate it looked like my pda 198.146.0.190 (these number are diffrent) would connect to my desktop 198.146.0.123 through my d-link 713p router 198.146.0.1 then my desktop would try to connect to itself ???? looked like a loop ???? Now, I am new at all this networking mess, and I am proud of myself because qwest said I could never get my internal dsl to internet share and that I needed there $199 external dsl modem.
My setup:
D-link 713p
d-link network cards 10/100
Wingate
Interquick plugin (this is what made it all work)
Prizm with xircom wireless springport

If I did not use Interquick I could not connect but when I did it all worked.

Tried all recommended posts, what now?

I'm at a loss of what to do next.

I'm also having quite a bit of difficulty getting Blazer, MultiMail SE, and Yahoo Messenger to connect (log on) using my Visor Edge with SWE and Linksys BEFW11S4. I don't think i'm having difficulty connecting my SWE with the Linksys, as i consistently establish a connection. When i go to the status page of the SWE module the signal is full strength too. However, that's were my excitement ends. When i go into Blazer my connection times out, MultiMail is unable to connect to POP3 Server, and Yahoo keeps telling me to reconnect. All my passwords and server connections are correct so i pretty sure that isn't the issue.
I've tried about every combination from past recommendations of this post and nothing seems to work. Oh the pain.
By the way, i'm very grateful for everyone's input on this post. I can honestly say i knew what i was getting into when i decided to purchase the SWE. I know once i get connected and everything is working, the end result will be most satisfying.

Using the exact same hardware as you, I'm curious what firmware version you're running on the BEFW11S4, as well as on the SWE. Also, though you said you tried all the current recommendations, was using a static assignment one of those?

Thanks for you response!

I upgraded the Linksys FW to the current 9 OCT 01.
SWE:
SW ver 1.10
FW ver 3.82
Palm OS 3.5.2h2.0
Net Lib v.3.2.0.d000
I looked at Linksys Support page but didn't see an update for SWE FW.
I have tried both Dynamic and Static IP Addresses and have found that only Static IP works for me. My Subnet is 255.255.255.0, Power Management is Disabled, Encryption is disabled
My network connection is setup so that i entered both Primary and Secondary DNS addresses(whether checked or not, neither way makes a difference when trying to open a web page)

Question: If my edge shows that it has established a connection with the network, has it? If it has why can't i download a web page or check my email? Also, i haven't been able to hotsync across the wireless network. Hmmmmm. This is puzzling to me.

SW v1.13 on my SWE and OS v3.5.2H1.5 on my Prism, but otherwise the same. Oddly, though, before I up(down)graded from SW v1.10 to v1.13 I could use DHCP just fine. I didn't have to go to a static assignment till I upgraded.

I swear, I really like this thing, but all these problems that don't even seem consistent from one Visor to another is just ridiculous.

Angry Dang, that didn't work either

Well, its back to the drawing board. I updated FW on SWE without a hitch. About the only benefit i derived from it was that is makes establishing a connection much faster. Otherwise, it didn't do much for letting Blazer or MultiMail actually log onto the net.
Thanks for the recommendation! In the meantime i'll just keep fiddling with my setup.

Lightbulb

From Linksys' Support Page for WAP11

quote:
Uplinking to other Hubs or Switches Connect the Access Point to a standard 10BaseT port on your hub or switch. Maximum uplink distance to a switch or a 10Mbps hub is 100 meters (328 feet).

Could this be a problem? I know my router is 10/100Mbps.

See the link to the thread in the previous post. There is a firmware upgrade for the Linksys WAP11 which fixes the problem!
