how do you soft reset?
Thanks to PatWoods
I am new to this forum but I have been reading your thread now for days. I first want to thank PatWoods for giving me suggestions on how to connect the markspace cable with my samsung 8500 phone and visor deluxe. I was having the same trouble as someone previous with the "modem not found" error. I have sprint service and I took my phone into the store. There was a problem with the software on my phone. They cleared the phone and reinstalled the software without affecting any of my settings. Then I was able to connect!
I have tried to connect to prodigy maillink and the sprint pcs site to check email. Has anyone been successful with either of these avenues????? It appears that some of you have used Eudora. Can that be used with avantgo?? I have loaded that as my browser.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Maria
Thanks guys!!
Ive been monitoring the thread from day one and appreciate all your "pioneering". I ordered the Supplynet cable (sch-3500-Visor Deluxe) 4 days ago and received it this afternoon. I plugged it in and at first got nothing/ My fault, I had the irlink 1.5 software still enabled! After turning off the irlink and following the enclosed instructions I was sending/receiving email within 10 minutes! I followed the suggested Eudora package and LOVE the email application. However, I do have a problem with the Eudora web browser. Though it works fine when I log into Yahoo mail the site tells me I entered an invalid password.Any ideas? Also in the past I used to hook up to a regular phoneline via a modem and used "Proxiweb". This application would show the sites graphics etc and was quite fast.However I had problems with that software too and wondered if anyone can suggest a different web browser.
Anyway, back to my main point. THANKS for everything and I can highly recommend the cable!

Canada?
Hi All,
Just wondering if the SupplyNet cable solution would work with a SCH-3500 in Canada? The cellular provider runs off a CMDA network. Any ideas?
Thanks!

quote:It's working nicely with the SCH-3530 (3500 series) on BM. Perfect for composing mail offline and then sending through Multi-Mail. It didn't appear to work in the absence of a digital signal. My colleague has success with 8500 series on Telus. Many more tests to run.

I recently saw an ad where AT&T had a package of $.07/minute long distance, and $7/month ISP...might be worth checking into...
Sending Mail
FYI - I'm using th SupplyNet cable with a Platinum, Samsung 6100, and MultiMail and have been sending mail successfully with the Sprint QNC setup. I have the SMTP account in MultiMail set to my regular ISP email account info.

As promised - a follow-up. I have my Prism, SprintPCS Samsung 8500 and supply net cable all happily connected. Yesterday, using Blazer I connected to the web. Today, I downloaded Eudora suite and set up my email. I am able to dial up, check two different email accounts and then disconnect. If I want to compose mail or reply, I can do it offline, and just connect to send. I like the Eurora mail program - it suits my needs very well so far.
I also tried the Eudora Browser, but I think I like the Blazer browser better.
In addition to dialing in to Sprint direct, I also set up to dial Prodigy. I found I have to pick which network in Preferences first before starting up the mail or web program. They both dial the last selected network. I guess I would have preferred that when you say to connect, it popped up a dialog letting you select the network. A minor inconvenience.
I was going to buy a modem, but now I really don't think I'll need it - this set up should serve me fine when travelling.
Doug in CT
In Network, I set up Prodigy,
user name is my prodigy account name - the part before the @prodigy.net. Password is my password. Connection , if using Sprint to dial, is the connection set up for the Sprint phone. Phone is the local prodigy phone number (preferably with the area code). Connection type is PPP. Idle timeout is power off. Query dns is checked. Ip Address is checked automatic.
That's how mine is set.
Sending Mail
You can not send mail over a network unless you are dialed into that particular network. You can receive mail but many ISP's require that you log onto THEIR network to send mail. I was told this is to do with spam. I personally connect via the Sprint PCS web dial-in and use Yahoo mail to keep away from dialing my ISP if Im on long distance.
I just recieved the Visor - Samsung 3500 cable from Supplynet as posted earlier. Bummer
No Luck. I have tried two Visors and 2 Samsungs. Still, no luck.
I have also tried using the Mark Space/Samsung Cable combination with and without a null modem connector. No Luck. I am beggining to wonder if this is possible. If anyone gets something to work please send me an email at [email protected] I don't check here very often.
Jeff
To add some details to my last post of not being able to connect.
Try one - Visor Deluxe/MS Cable/Sprint Data Cable/3500 Phone
(I used a wire to jumper pin 4 to pin 7 in the MS 9 pin end)
Try Two - Visor Deluxe/Supply Net Cable/3500 Phone
Modem Settings :
Modem=Standard
Speed=14,400
Speaker=off
Flow Ctrl=Off
Country=United States
String=AT&FX4
Network Settings:
Service=Sprint
Username=web
Password=web
Phone=#2932
I have also used my Earthlink account. Everytime I try to connect I get "Error: modem command error. Check Modem Preferences (0x1105)" I have tried with my Sprint 3500 and my girlfriends Sprint 3500 phone. No Luck. I reset the Handspring, Turned it off, connected the cable, then tried to connect. No luck, same error. Any ideas. This is so frustrating. I have been trying to get this to work for over a year now. Could it be that both phones are screwed up?
Help!!
Jeff
Country=Other
After checking all of my settings I finally noticed that under Modem
Country=Other
Not the USA. NOW IT WORKS!! Finally after 1 year!!
Cool. How weird is that. I guess I probably read that in the posts but couldn't even imagine that that setting would be the one I needed to change.

I've got @Home, so I'm trying to find a decent/inexpensive ISP to use. Do you have any problems sending/receiving mail at all?
Thanks for the information!

software to sync Samsung phone book with Visor
I have been scouring the Internet for Visor software that can sync my Samsung 8500 phone book with the Visor. Or at the very least, transfer names & numbers from the Visor to the Samsung. Has anyone seen such software? This seems like an obvious use of any Visor-cell phone connection, but I haven't found anything. Or, does anyone know how to access the phone book info through the Samsung serial port? I suppose I could try writing software to do this if I knew the details of how to get the info in and out of the phone.
Thanks for any info!

Any suggestions?
