Use a Visor to receive faxes via landline?
Forgive me if this issue has been addressed already; this is my first time here.
I'd like to know if my Visor Deluxe can be used to receive faxes via a landline telephone number. The few software apps I've read about online can send faxes, but I saw nothing about receiving faxes. (I know that threads about communications software belong on a different board, but it seems a couple of other people posted similar questions there and got no replies.)
Here are the complete details of our situation:
We have a fax machine that uses thermal paper. I'm annoyed by having to work with paper that curls, and the surface of the thermal paper feels weird to me. We could get a plain-paper fax machine, but ones that print using a laser process cost at least $200. Also, there would be the occasional problem with a received fax not being 11 inches in length.
Furthermore, I'd like to do a little something for the environment and avoid printing out faxes that would just go into the trash. We have an old Windows 95 PC that could be set up as a dedicated fax machine -- we'd print out only the faxes we want -- but I imagine that would consume a lot more electricity than our fax machine.
I thought I could get a fax/modem Springboard module for my unused Visor Deluxe and have it receive faxes. (Since it's currently unused, I wouldn't mind not being able to use it for anything else.) I figure I would sync it with a PC whenever a fax comes in (which isn't very often). To send faxes, we would still use our fax machine, but we could keep it turned off until we needed to do so. (Naturally, the Visor and the fax machine would share the same phone line through a coupler.) We'd also turn our fax machine on just in case a fax comes in while the Visor is being synched, having its batteries changed, etc.
Is such a setup possible? If so, is it practical?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
