-- OLEDs for Visor? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1367)
I recently read something about a new innovation for flat-screen displays called Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED). It was in an article about wearable computers in the latest Wired PDA-edition.
In the article it was mentioned that cell phones and handhelds will be coming out this year utilizing just such a technology. Who, then? Anyone?
Supposedly OLEDs are low-energy consumption alternatives to present color displays.
Don't want a start any rumors, so take this post as only a wish. But wouldn't it be great if this was Handsprings next move? They built a better IIIx (if it doesn't bother to think that way), why not a better IIIc?
I'm still doing research on the other capabilities and characteristics of OLEDs. Anybody knowledgable out there want to chime in?
I'm back. Internet research (yay, Google.com) goes fast.
A small description from Kodak again:
quote:
"An Organic EL display is comprised of self-luminous pixels which require no backlighting. It features unlimited viewing angle and faster response speed than conventional LCD technology. With its low power consumption, high brightness, and thin design, future Organic EL displays incorporated in digital cameras and personal digital assistants (PDA) displays will not only be brighter and clearer, but will be thinner in physical design and consume less power that current technology. It will replace the current LCD in such small and middle-size appliances as cellular phones and portable terminals.
...Active Type Organic EL Displays are characterized by high brightness, quick response, unlimited viewing angle, low operating voltage, low power consumption, and thin structure. "
Sure would be better than the lousy backlight currently on these things.
