How PDA access E-Mail?

How PDA access E-Mail?

How Visor (and other PDA) access the POP e-mail?, using the phone cable (Dial-Up)?, using the wireless access? (how?), Using simCARD like Cellphone?, or maybe another way?.

In my country, wireless Internet access provider is not available yet, except for mobile phone (GSM, CDMA and AMPS)+W@P via GPRS and Dial-Up Internet Access.

Anybody can help me to explain, How Visor (and other PDA) access E-Mail?

I'am sorry if my question is too basic, because I'm a novice, new comer in this "digitaly wireless" world.

Hi!

Well, the answer to your question is actually that PDAs access email in all of the ways that you've mentioned. I'll briefly explain:

Hotsync: there are various applications that can download email during a hotsync to your computer. Your visor comes with one called "Mail." It pulls whatever you've downloaded onto your computer.
Wirelessly: Despite the fact that you don't have a PDA-specific wireless network, you can still download email wirelessly. There are applications for the visor that work particularly well for that, (ex. www.eudora.com ). People just hook a cable up to their visor and cell phone, or even use the InfraRed port, and then use their mobile phones as modems.
Wired: There are also springboard modems that use land lines (ex. www.thinmodem.com ), to access email and the web directly.

I have a visor dxe and am thinking about getting a cell phone, what kind of cable would you hook up to be able to get email wirelessly from the phone to the visor, and how exactly could you get your email using the infrared port? Would this work on any wireless phone?

There are cables for most mobile phones, try http://www.thesupplynet.com/index.cfm , http://www.pcables.com , or (I was going to post www.cables4pdas.com , but it's gone!

You can also connect via IR, but only with phones that have a working IR port. I believe most like the Nokia 8890.

Both are relatively simple set-ups in your Preferences: Networking. You'll also need an ISP, which may or may not come with your wireless plan.

Now that the Treo is available, many people my be selling their VisorPhone modules. I had one and it worked really great for wireless email and pretty good as a cell phone. That's another option for you.

Visor Phone

The cool thing about the Visor Phone is that IT IS FREE! I got mine off the handspring website a couple of days ago, where I'd signed up for Voice Stream's $30 plan (200 anytime minutes, unlimited weekends, LD included), with no particular data plan.

Now I'm totally cruisin' wirlessly. I can check the web using Blazer (1.1 comes with VP, 2.0 a free upgrade), and checking my email using One Touch (included). The phone is ok for Voice, but the included earphone sucks. I hear that if I buy a high quality ear phone the voice quality will greatly improve.

So why buy a used Visor Phone when you can get a new one free?

I also got the phone for free when I signed up for voicestream.
I am impressed at how well it also surfs the net, and downloads e-mail. I had trouble forwarding e-mail, but it sends and receives very well. My phone works great, maybe it depends where you are located, but three states away my relatives say it sounds terrific on my calls, and I can hear them very clear, indeed, I had to turn the volume down. That little foam piece that came with it is nice, I put that around the speaker and I can locate it much quicker when I hold it to my ear.
Pretty impressive overall.

If you've already got a GSM phone and a contract, you don't have to sign up for a new contract. Just take the SIM card out of the phone and put it in a used VP!

Anybody want one? I could sell mine.
