VisorPhone and AT&T
AT&T just started offering GSM/GPRS service here in Portland, OR. I wanted to try it out, and subscribed, $49.99/mo for 400 minutes and 1MB for data. In addition, as a promo special I got unlimited nights and weekend minutes for the life of the plan. I chose AT&T because according to the coverage maps, AT&T covers more area of my interest than Sprint or VoiceStream.
Also, I purchased the VisorPhone without plan at $99.
Well, the VP works fine as a phone, but I'm not able to make any data connections. The AT&T tech folks are still coming up to speed on this service and were not much help. I suspect (and I am nowhere knowledgeable in this area) the AT&T GSM service does not allow/include any data connections and all data connections must be made via the GPRS service, which I believe the VP does not support.
I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas on how I could get data connections with the VP with the AT&T GSM service.
Good news is that I'm still within the 30 days cancellation/return policies, but I may still keep the service and VP just for the voice service.
Thanks,
Rock
No GPRS with VP
You are right, I don't think th VP supports GPRS. Check with handspring to be sure. Because of this you can only access the internet on the VP by dialing in to an ISP.
