-- $$$ of cell phone connections (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13624)
besides the software, etc.
Does one have to make a connection fee or pay for a normal cell phone call when connecting a cell phone to a visor for wireless purposes?
To use the data services of SprintPCS, I need to subscribe to their Wireless Web plan which is $10.00/month and airtime comes out of tmy standard plan minutes.

Yeah, Sprint is an extra $10 per month, Cingular is $7? plus $0.15 per min, Verizon is $7 plus a per minute charge, ATT is a per minute charge, I don't remember exactly how much but it makes ATT the most expensive for wireless data for the Visor.

Not true!
For Verizon, you don't need to pay the extra $7 a month if you're going to use your own ISP. The extra charge is to use their Mobile Web service (which was designed for cell phones and adds zero value for Visor access, IMHO).
You're better off just buying a cable connector and using your cell phone just as you would any other modem on a dial-up connection. In fact, I cancelled my Mobile Web service when I finally got a cable connection. Why suffer that foolish WAP stuff when you can get full Web access through a Visor?
You still have to pay the per-minute charges, though. If you want to avoid per-minute charges, you may be better off with a Minstrel which gives you a persistent connection.
I can't vouch for Sprint or AT&T, but I suspect the same is true for them.

That's what they tell you, of course, because they want to control your Internet access. But have you guys tried hooking up your Visor to your cellphone and calling another dial-up ISP, not theirs, without paying the extra charge? I don't understand why it wouldn't work for you, just like it worked for me on Verizon.
