VisorPhone Powers Off by itself?!?!
This happened several times to me today, but it may be the obvious.
My VisorPhone powers off by itself(Visorphone Off) without me manually shutting it down.
My question is, does the VisorPhone shuts itself off if the phone cannot communicate with a cell-site(like I'm in a building)? I understand getting the "no service" issue, but if the phone is in a "no service" for an extended time, will the Visorphone timeout?

I've never seen this happen, and I didn't see any description of it in the Handspring FAQs either. Anybody else?

My VP/Prism "times-out" when I'm in a no-signal situation for an extended time (every day in the building I work in).
I was talking with Handspring Tech Support today about a separate issue and I asked the guy about it. He went and checked with someone else and came back and said that it is designed to do that. He didn't know the time length before auto-off and I've never timed mine.
The $ for tech support 90 days after pruchase doesn't start until 1 JAN 02.

This VisorPhone is making me more upset. What if a person needs to receive an important phone call and the phone times out itself??!! I understand the ability to conserve power by shutting off the phone.
My VisorPhone just exhibited the "old problem" that I had, phone would abruptly go into "No Service" until I manually shut the phone off and turn it back on.
I had this problem with the first VisorPhone and switched it out with a "new" unit from Handspring. My VisorPhone is in a high-signal strenght area and it just goes into "No Service." Horrible design, as other Voicestream customers don't experience this at all(I have many friends at work with Voicestream).

I have also had problems with the VP powering off. At first I thought it was because of a lost service connection. Then I noticed that the VP signal can be "heard" by placing it next to my PC speakers. The signal makes a pulsing noise that changes according to how it is connected (or not connected) to Voicestream. After a few days, I have been able to decipher some of the noises, like I can tell if data is being sent, or if a SMS is coming in.
Anyway, before powering off, it seems like the connection to the service is not complete somehow, and the VP shuts itself off after about a minute. I found that if I make a call within that minute, it will usually not power off.
Unfortunately, this doesn't tell me what the problem is, or if it is a service problem or a VP problem. I post this in the hope that this will help someone out there in solving this problem.
If anyone has any ideas on what to try next, please share!

Hi Jeff,
Handspring tech support did verify that the VisorPhone powers itself off to conserve battery power. As everyone knows, the weaker the connection between the cell phone and the cell site, the more power the phone needs to put out. When the phone enters "no service," the phone will then need to put more power out.
Handspring tech support did not mention "how long it takes before the VisorPhone powers off" after entering a No Service state.
If Voicestream had more cell sites in Hawaii, I wouldn't have experienced this problem so many times.
I know for a fact, the VisorPhone does not have a good signal strength as compared to the Nokia phone. I find myself tilting my head in different directions to "try and hear the other party."
