Recharging locks up VisorPhone?

I've noticed a potential bug in the VisorPhone. Nearly every time I recharge my VisorPhone, I am unable to turn it back on (hold the power button for two seconds until it beeps).

I have to unplug the module and reseat it and then the phone turns on. Anyone else see this?

Unhappy visorphone lockups

I have the same problem. But sometimes it even happens when I haven't recharged the phone, and it's just been sitting off overnight.

Have you had any technical advice from handspring?

Unhappy Me too.

I have the exact same thing. I haven't bothered to call support yet. Re-seating the phone is easy enough. Maybe this is a hack issue. I'll try charging with all hacks off tonight and see what happens.

I also have, on a couple of occasions, had the phone turn itself off by itself. I still am not totally sure that this isn't a mistaken press of the on/off button, but since you have to hold it for a couple of seconds an inadvertent press seems unlikely. I have it on my belt on and connected and some time later I check it and the phone is off. I think I needed to re-seat it to turn it back on. Maybe these two issues are related.

Smile Hmmm

Well, I can tell you that I don't have ANY hacks running. So I really doubt that it's that. I have a feeling that it is indeed a length of time that the unit is left off.

No, I've not actually written to Handspring about it. I probably should. In the meantime, I've found this workaround -- because for me, reseating the module isn't such a good solution since I have the E&B slipper case. If you turn the phone app one and hit any speed dial buttons or dial out a number using the dial pad, a window will pop and ask if you want to turn the phone on. Hit "yes" and the module will beep, but it's still off (at this point, I think software wakes the module up). Then go through a power cycle, i.e. hold the power button, and voila it's on again.

Wink interesting workaround

Interesting workaround. I'll try it the next time I can't turn on the VP.

By the way, I charged last night after disaabling all my hacks and had no problem turning on the phone this AM. Given that you arn't running any hacks maybe this ws just dumb luck.

Exclamation Same problem

I had the same problem with my VisorPhone freezing my Deluxe overnight and sometimes during the day. Twice I was able to do a soft reset but on three occasions all I could get was the Palm OS intro screen and it would flash every few seconds but not load. Then I would have to erase all my data with a damn Hard Reset and sync.

I e-mailed Handspring 5 days ago regarding the flaw, but they have not responded. The problem is very annoying. Also, as far as the phone turning off on its own...I have noticed this problem as well. I do know for a fact that if the Visorphone losses a signal for a certain period of time it will automatically shut itself off. This is VERY annoying, as people try to reach me and can't get though, even when I'm probably back into a good signal range. I have noticed, however, that the Visorphone tends to power itself off if not in use for an extended period, say 4-5 hours that you don't make or receive a call. This is REALLY annoying. This damn phone has a long-lasting Lithium Ion battery, why would Handspring give it the ability to turn itself off just because a call hasn't been made or received in few hours. Could be just that the phone lost service for a short time. I have not been able to nail down the specific reason.
