That's my point, though. If the springboard isn't usable with it other than in a backup situation, then the springboard isn't of much use with it and could have been just as easily replaced with another thinner technology.

then you'd just have a m500 made by handspring

Or a CF Edge. Or a slightly thicker Edge that had a real SB slot.

then it'd be just as big (or close enough) to the other visors. Like a neo. A metallic red neo.

Or a silver Neo with an aluminum case. Might have sold better that way.

but its main point was the anti-thickness. That's the reason some people buy those. (at least that is the reason I did)

That's my point, though. If the only reason for buying it was thinness and ability to backup, the m5xx _would_ have been a better choice.

BUT!

m500 approx. $500 Cdn.....m505 MUCH MORE.

Edge? after conversion....about $300 (about $200 now... )

As for the expansion, i only use it for backup also, but then again that's pretty much all i used the SB slot for in my deluxe (sometimes the modem...when travelling).

I'm STILL waiting for somebody with some know-how to come up with a nice, thin, little CF reader that uses the Edge connector. I know, no market, but i mean some 'garage' build would be nice.

that's my point. it's still worth it to buy an edge

If you're in Canada.

off of palmgear (I think located in Texas) the m500 is $400.
Still more expensive than the edge.

Cheers

I'll see your "BUT!", and I'll raise you another... , but that's because the m500 has held more of its value. When they were released, they were the exact same price. The Edge is dropping like a stone because nobody wants to buy one. Evidently Palm is still managing to sell some of their m500s.

I had a modem, omniremote, and voice recorder which I used with my deluxe that really wouldn't work with the Edge. I still have a Memplug, GPS, and Backup module, but my Memplug gets used rarely, and the GPS even moreso.

I'm sure the know-how is already out there. It would just take someone a bit of time and the motivation to put it together. Unfortunately, I don't think the Edge has a big enough community to make it likely.

Only if you're looking for an ultra-cheap PDA which probably won't be supported anymore before its warranty period runs out. Something else I noticed on CompUSA's website yesterday (while checking to see if they had more information on the Toshiba e740) is that the only Visors listed were the ultra cheap Edge, and refurbished Neos. Hmm...is CompUSA getting ready to drop Handspring? Considering they still had Ice Deluxes (not marked as refurbished) in stock last time I was there, I wouldn't find it hard to believe.

How are those? I've been thinking of getting one. Is it just for the one program or can it work for all beaming purposes?

They're neat, _but_ don't bother unless you plan to buy (or have) another Visor with a built-in springboard.

No, it's send only, so it won't work for all beaming.

but can it send anything, or just for the remote program?

Just the remote program as it comes. There may be a hack to use it for more, I don't know.

Just the remote program, unless somebody else figured out a way to reroute the IR Tx to their hardware (not impossible, but improbable that someone would have gone through the trouble).

thanks for the input. I might not buy an omniremote module, because it only works with the one program.
