Setting Up Visor phone internet access in CA bay area
Has anyone successfully set up wireless internet on their VisorPhone in the California Bay Area? I have tried to get help from Cingular who has been telling me to call Handspring. I called Handspring and they told me to call Cingular.
Advise or tips on what I need to do to get my VP connected would be greatly appreciated.
Basically, you need to have them set up data capability on your phone. That costs $4.99/month. Not bad until you find out that they charge you $0.15/minute. This is a separate charge - at least you don't use your allotted minutes.
I'm disappointed with this - you can spend a bundle on the per minute charge. The Wireless Internet ($6.99/month and use included minutes) does not work with the VP.
Now it looks like that CDMA phone is going to be the way to go. Should have waited just a few more weeks - I would have gotten that phone with more flexibility than the GSM phone. Oh well. Still works okay as a phone, it's just that I don't need wireless internet that badly.
Hope this helps.

Check my discussion thread on 7/31 titled "Visor Phone Modem Help" for details of my experiences in the East Bay.
- simply stated, you need:
1) to activate Cingular Data Services ($4.95/month + $.15/minute).
2) an ISP with an analog phone number.
-- I use Pac Bell DSL at home which provides me with a free analog number.
-- They don't advertise this, I only picked it up one day during a tech support call.
Once Data Services is actrivated, put the ISP's analog number in Prefs/Network. Hit "connect" and you should be good to go!
Actually, now that I know it can be done and have done it, I'll probably cancel the Data Services. I really see no need for web access from my VDX [yes, I realize that's a personal opinion and lots of people may need such access]
