Nokia 8210 connection
I have Just purchased a Visor Deluxe and am having loads of problems connecting it to my Nokia 8210. I can use my Nokia 8210 with my laptop and Psion 5 so know that the phone isn't the problem. I have installed IrLink 1.5 and the SerIrComm Library file. I have installed a term emulator and tried the hayes ATI command but get no info back. Has anybody successfully got these items working together and can give me some info.
Thanks
dazza_uk, There is a page at http://www.bcpl.net/~wstone/8290/ that may be helpful. It mentions the 8290, but I imagine the process should be the same for the 8210.

Problems with infrared
Hello,
I just got a nokia 8290 (not the same, I realize) and did initially have trouble figuring out how to connect using the infrared port. The things I learned quite quickly were:
1) Make sure that you have afterburner turned OFF for the program that will be making the connection over the infrared
2) Not sure it matters, but turn afterburner off for the app entitled "prefs" also, just to be safe. You'll never know it's off anyways
3) Make sure you have enabled IR on the phone!
Test your IR ability by beaming an address out of your address book into the phone or somehting. That way you'll know if you just have a problem with your connection prefs.
Success with 8210
I use an 8210 with my Visor Deluxe, IrLink 1.5 and Orange.
No problems at all - remember to use Menu 9 to enable IR on the phone beforehand.
I generally set the modem prefs to 9,600, flow control off and use the init string AT+CBST=71,0,1 which should get you a connection to things like the Demon Digital POP on Orange.
For connecting to other numbers, I use the standard init string.
In IrLink, use the device discovery to check if the phone can be see - if not, you won't get anywhere.
Make sure IrLink is set to redirect the network, using IrDA 1.0 - tap the Mixed button, and choose the Network option at the bottom of the screen.
To work with a terminal emulator, you'll need to redirect the cradle for that particular app (or all of them...)
Some CPU speed controls make IrLink play up - I tried a couple and they simply stopped it seeing anything with the phone. FastCpu, however, doesn't appear to stop anything working.

I sorted the problem out. I was doing everything OK it was the handspring it had a faulty IR port I got it replaced and did what I had done before and it all worked ok. Thanks anyway for the reply.
