-- Wireless solutions in Japan? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10863)
Can anyone give me any suggestions for the best way to get wireless access to email, ICQ and some websites for my visor here in Japan? I have a visor deluxe now, but will be upgrading to a prism within the month (I don't know if that makes any difference...) Maybe this is a stupid question, but please be patient with the technologically illiterate!
Well, I think that the best option for you is to get a IR enabled phone, and connect through there. I don't think that a Minstrel modem will work for you in Japan, but I might be wrong. Anyways, many people have succesfully hooked up a IR phone to the Visor already with much sucess.
BEN
Thanks, I'll look into it!
Natalie,
CDPD(Omnisky, YadaYada) or GSM(Visor Phone) don't work in Japan. I heard many people in Japan use NTT Docomo NM502i to connect to the 'net via IR port of Visor/Palm. I also heard Docomo will start selling a new model with IR, so I'd go ask about it at a Docomo shop.
Also this is not exactly "wireless" but you can use IR port of gray payphones to connect to web with Visor. You need a special telephone card for the gray phone.
Upgrading to Prism is good because with Vdx you have to download & install some IR programs to connect. With Prism, you don't need to.
Do you read Japanese? There are a lot of good Japanese Visor/Palm web sites....just search on Japanese search engines. Or start from PALM LINK. It automatically refreshes every 30 min & shows Palm/Visor websites that have been updated.
