As I said before, I haven't signed up for web services because others, in this thread and in the wireless thread, have stated that they have connected without this service.
I checked your link and there's nothing I haven't tried.
Does anybody have this working with the StarTac 7860W?
I'll try posting in the wireless thread.
Thanks,
Rey [/B]
I'm using the cables4pdas cable with a StarTac 7868W and Verizon in the DC area. Using the setting listed on the cables4pdas web page, I get a connection on every try.
Although I have Verizon's "web enabled" feature right now (first 3 months free), I don't think this will be a requirement for data access to my ISP so I will probably cancel it before the free trial period ends.
As a side note, was riding in to work on the metro this morning with a headset plugged into the top of my Visor (SoundsGood) and a cables4pdas plugged into the bottom. You've got to like downloading email and listening to tunes on the same machine at the same time!!

Re: Help for roentgen
Roentgen,
Are you using the little red block that was in the SprintPCS connection kit? It is a null modem that needs to be in place between your wireless web cable and your Visor serial cable.

I have virtually the same settings as you, using Mindspring (which now uses Earthlink dial-up numbers) and it's working fine. However, I *do* have data service on my 7868W.
I'd suggest signing up for the Mobile Web service and seeing if that helps. It could be that it's not needed for some carriers, but is for Verizon.

For my mobile web access to be activated, I needed an IP address in my phone, was anyone aware of that?
If you'd like to check if you have one, these were the steps that Verizon gave me for my startac:
1. enter this number: "472337377" then press "FCN" twice
2. scroll to "LINK.A" press "STO"
3. scroll to "IP Addr 1" press "STO"
4. you can now view your ip address if you have one
5. press "STO" to set and exit

1. Are they truly sure that they don't have this service activated or unaware that they're on a free trial?
2. Is this just an issue with Verizon in NYC?
3. Is this just an issue with the ST7860W? All the postings mention the ST7868W.
Dual Question now that I got my SCP4000 workin
by the way, thanks so much to everyone here.
I decided yesterday that I wanted to get my wireless on and by 6p tonight I am up!
Few questions...
1) Am I supposed to be dialing into my local ISP via my Visor and then Sprint PCS phone... I was under the impression it would go through the internal 'Sprint PCS Wireless Web' interface, i.e. I wouldnt need to use my ISP...
2) This is a toughie... is there any way to split the hotsync/serial port... I really want to be able to use my stowaway keyboard at the same time as my new 'cell modem'... if not, I guess I can wait for the sixpack ... but any solutions for now?
3) Since Im told I cant use the cables from Marks since they dont have the active circuitry blah blah [is this true for the Sanyo 4000] then is there something smaller I can use... its a pain to carry around the large sync cradle...!
Thanks SOO much
rk

Sigh... I am this close to buying an Omnisky setup anyhow... it does work, just not with the addons that Omni has...
The amount I'd spend on the 6pack almost makes up for it...
well that and the fact that its unlimited and doesnt require a small bag just to carry all teh cables
sadly, it IS $40 a month
QNC!? inform me please? Where do i go ?

The serial is in use message.
Try hitting the hotsync icon in the hotsync program on your palm. You don't need to be connected. Then hit cancel. did it show you you serial port was in use. Everything should work.
The QNC with sprintpcs. Try it you will like it. I am able to connect to the web in less than 10 sec. Follow the links above.

I want to take the plunge!
Pardon my ignorance if I've missed something. I've read the entire thread and been struck with a bad case of MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over) when reading all the various setups people are connecting. I'm sure my questions have already been answered, but I just need to cut through the haze.
I have a Qualcomm QCP-2760 with a Sprint PCS account. If I get a Mark/Space data cable and add Wireless Web to my Sprint account, do I need anything else (other than configuring my modem settings)?
If you own the Sprint connection kit, then yes.
You would need the Wireless web connection kit from Sprint, add Wireless Web to your phone account, and get a MarkSpace cable. You would plug the wireless web cable into the phone, plug the null modem block(comes in Sprint connection kit) into the Wireless Web cable, plug the MarkSpace cable into the null modem, and plug the MarkSpace into your Visor. About 8 feet of cable and adapters and weighs more that your Visor.

Yep. Heck even WalMart might sell them. Just to let you know, I am just about ready to release a single cable solution for the 860/1960/2760 family.

I have a SprintPCS Touchpoint (I believe it is the 1100 -it's made by Denso Wireless - not Qualcomm as it says on the case) and I am able to connect to the internet using my Visor using several different methods:
1) using an EFIG springboard module (around $150) and the Sprint wireless web data cable (this is real portable).
2) using a Visor serial cradle and the Sprint wireless web data cable.
To make the 2nd method more portable, I made a 5 inch long serial cable using the circuit board from the serial cradle - real easy to do. I also shortened the Sprint Wireless Web data cable to 5 inches - also real easy to do. (note: the portable serial cable I made has a DB9 on one end and has a Visor connector, taken from a Visor USB cable, on the other end)
Unfortunately, the mark-space cable didn't work for me and neither did the simple Cables4PDA cable. This is because the same TTL/RS232 conversion circuitry found in the cradle is for some reason still required for the Touchpoint phone to properly connect. I suspect the other Qualcomm phones also have the same need.
Now I'm really lost
After the last response by NYSEBULL, I am really confused. I thought all I needed was a cable from his company to hook up my StarTac phone to the Visor with wireless web enabled by Sprint. Now what's this about the sprint wireless connection kit (which costs $100) and more cables????? It seems like a bit much compared to what I've read in the past. PLEASE CLARIFY!
The cable that nysebull makes is all you need for StarTac phones (and Samsung?)- a great solution for those phones.
Some phones however, (such as Sprint Touchpoint)still need the SprintPCS Wireless Web data cable (yes, it is a ripoff at $100 - you don't need the software that it comes with in the box. But there is a tiny circuit board embedded in the DB9 port of the cable that is required to make it work). Denso Wireless makes the Touchpoints for Sprint but they refuse to give me the pin-out description so that I might make a simpler/cheaper cable.
