Exclamation Thinmodem(+), Vdx, and one long road trip

Ok, I'm trying to decide between getting a backup module, and a whole bunch of other stuff for my vdx, or getting a thinmodem or thinmodem +. Does anyone have any experience/advice on if it is worth it, or if I should just not bother.

The first SB module I bought was the TM+ and was probably the best. What would recommend for long trips is just getting the regular ThinModem (it's the same, just doesn't have as much storage) and using the change to get a Flashplus or simular module. This would give you plenty of storage plus the abiblity to do back-ups when away from a PC for extended periods of time.

Hypothetical Situation

Ok, what if I were to get the springport modem, would I be able to connect in europe? Are the phone lines/dial tones different? (for UK, france, germany, italy, norway, etc). Does anyone have a list of connection numbers for AOL in eurpope? Any experience in connecting with AOL, or another dialup service?

Question

First: How exactly does a modem sync work (I have broadband, do I need to leave my modem plugged into the wall all the time, and I'm guessing the modem does not stay connected to the net all day, right?)

Second: Lets say i'm in europe (and my PC is in the middle of the USA) and need to get a program or database for a program that I forgot (such as a city database for metro). Can I connect to my home computer using PalmVNC, download the database, run the palm install program, and then modem sync my visor to install the new program/database?

Third: How good will web-browsing be if I am using avantgo on a vdx (more specifically, does avantgo bypass the os for image drawing like tealmovie does so I can see 4 bit grey-scale images) I know javascript doesn't work, and frames don't either, but I won't be using them anyway.

Fourth: How hard is multimail to setup. I had a nightmare with outlook express and my isp, I hope this will be better.

(on number 3 I changed the word monocrome to greyscale)

Cool Got it, good, now...

Ok, went to Staples earlier today, and picked up a thinmodem for $56. Went home, looked up our dialup setup (use broadband mainly), and set it up. It worked fine, downloading all the sites I tried in a couple of seconds (Actually, yahoo caused it to freeze, but its a rather complex site anyway) I tried VNC, but it didn't work, and I am going to sleep on the problem. All I can say is Whoo-hoo!!!. I'm gonna clear out the flash memory in the module, and backup some information onto it.

Make sure you are running the version of VNC on your desktop that comes from Harakun (sp?). It is a modified version and is different from the version from AT&T.

I have not gotton VNC to work for me, although I have not really tried all that hard.
