Does anyone know if SprintPCS can tell if you're using data if you use another ISP? Would be great if I didn't have to spend all the money on Minutes and Data.

Okay, to answer my own question ... I got this to work, and did not need to order anything else.
I followed the Verizon directions on cables4pdas.com, jumped onto the web, re-synced avantgo, I'm definitely wireless.
The one thing I'm not sure of is that I have flow control set to on, but Robert at supplynet says that the Visors don't do flow control, and that this setting must be off. I ran avantgo successfully with flow control on, but am going to turn it off and try again.
gomadica & Startac
I purchased a cable from gomadica.com I used the setting recommend for Verizon service for the Modem and Network connections but when I try to connect I get a beep from the phone (when I connect the cable) so that seems to be connecting, but when I click on connect there is a message 'connecting' but eventually I get the message:
"Error:serial timeout.
Could be bad cable or faulty Modem
(0x0305)"
I will try to find someone with the same phone and see if theirs connects but I suspect the cable.
There seems to be no way to contact gomadica, the link on their webpage doesn't work, there is no phone or mail address and the package included nothing but the cable (seems kinda strange to me)
Anyway has anyone been able to contact gomadica? Or have they had similar problems and resolved them in another way.
Responses greatly appreciated.
What model Visor do you have?
What model phone do you have?

Visor Deluxe Startac 7868W
I am using a Visor Deluxe and Startac 7868W with the gomadica cable.
As mentioned before, I get a beep from the phone when I connect the cable. Then when I choose connect from the Network window I get a beep, then the message "Signing on" (on the Visor) and then get the message "Error:serial timeout.
Could be bad cable or faulty Modem
(0x0305)" and another beep.
I used the setting recommend for Verizon service for the Modem and Network connections.
The Visor Deluxe (Palm OS 3.1H2) will not work with the Verizon QNC network. It will work on any other network (Earthlink, MSN, etc..) The problem is that the Verizon network needs a "PC to Serial" connection method. Palm OS 3.1H2 on the Deluxe only allows for a "PC to Modem" connection. The Palm OS version on the Visor Deluxe is also not upgradeable.
If you put 00,#777 as the number it will dial it but it then disconnect. We're working with Verizon on this.
Do you have another ISP you can use in the meantime?

I have a similar setup to buckm. I am able to use my Verizon account in Cincinnati, but I get a similar time out error that buckm mentioned when I tried to dial up my ISP while in Dallas. While in Dallas, the StarTac read digital on the phone. Is there a difference in the Verizon in Dallas v. Cincinnati?

Its very possible (Though unlikely, since Dallas is a big city) that Dallas does not support data, which requires them to have modems on their towers. Just because a network is digital doesn't mean its data. Verizon advertises all digital areas have data, but as a disclaimer says to contact the local rep.
Where I live, Idaho, ALL of Verizon's network is digital but only Boise has data - the rest of the state is SOL. I asked the rep a couple days ago on when we were getting it and she said its at least 6 months away, until this month they didn't even have a way to bill MobileWeb. She was a lot nicer than the rep I talked to last year, who lied and said they had it & I ended up getting stuck in a year long contract.

Anyone know of a cable for VPR/LG 510 flip phone??
I'm looking for a cable to use my Prism with my Verizon/ LG-TM 510 flip phone. I have web service activated, and I also have the Minstrel. I also have a dial up account (WT.net), but I'm not sure how good coverage will be at Delaware/Maryland beach towns. I imaginge the phone will have service; any one know?
New Cable connects Okay
Got my new cable today and successfully connected to my ISP. Still can't use Verizon qnc which would be nice. Loaded EudioraWeb and mail and they both worked fine. Now I just need to find the most appropriate links to use which have simple interfaces for use with the browser.
Is Blazer that much better than EudoraWeb?

Anybody know how close avantgo is to blazer? From the screenshots they look the same. And I like not having to have two different programs. (one for actual web browsing, one for offline web browsing)
If you can't understand what I mean, just say so. I'm kinda tired right now.

Blazer offers wireless browsing of HTML and WAP pages.
AvantGo offers wireless browsing of HTML pages (Over 1,000 handheld friendly pages and non-handheld pages), and the ability to sync content from multiple sources. The concept is two fold:
1) if you do not have a wireless connection, you can still get content delivered to your PDA, and
2) if you do have a wireless connection, you can still have content that you can read where you do not have a signal (Plane, subway, garages, ets) and you can get content that does not eat-up your wireless minutes.
Blazer is fast with it's incremental rendering but if you time it against AvantGo for full page rendering, they are alsmot equal. IMHO AvantGo does a much better job with graphics. The down side is that AvantGo does take up a lot of space.
Oh yeah, blazer costs $19.99 and AvantGo is free.
Was okay yeater now no connection
As in my earlier post. First had a bad cable. Got that replaced and connected to my ISP using version, Deluxe, and Startac 7868W phone. Yesterday I was wirelessly snyching Avantgo when things locked up and since then when I try to connect the phone dials the number but I get the message, "No Connection".
My phone indicates a strong digital signal.
use Blazer for browsing
I also have AvantGo installed and fetch pages for it during hotsync in the cradle. For 'live' web browsing I use Blazer which is pretty fast for a PDA browser. I tried to update AvantGo pages via my cellphone but Verizon's QNC services and my AvantGo settings don't want to play correctly but I don't mind since I AvantGo sync every morning anyway.
Hell, I noticed that if you have an Etrade account their website will detect that you're using a PDA as a browser and construct special pages for you that fit perfectly on the Visor's screen! Really works well and goes to show you how a website can be built properly.

Email with QNC
I recently got a cable from Cables4PDAs for my Prism and my Motorola V8160. It works perfectly for with Verizon QNC for Blazer, AvantGo modem sync, and for receiving email. Unfortunately, when I try to send email I get protocol error 550 and "cannot relay to [whatever address I am sending to]". I am using Iambic Mail. Does anyone know if this is a problem with QNC or with my client?
No send-mail services via QNC
When you use QNC it does not provide for send-mail servers. There are some options. Take a look at the bottom of this webpage I just built as a tutorial for setting up QNC.

Verizon QNC
The Verizon quick connect method (QNC) does not currently work on the Visor/Visor Deluxe with some model phones (Motorola, Samsung). It does work with the new Audiovox 9100 phone just released by Verizon.
We currently have cables is stock for this phone. We are working with Verizon to find a solution for the phones that are not working. For now you will have to use a dialup connection when using the Visor/Visor Deluxe.
I will post the solution when it is found. It will most probably be "AT" commands that will need to be placed in the init string.

Actually, if you already have an ISP, no you don't [need to activate Wireless Web service]. I have a Motorola StarTac 7868W on Verizon and I don't have the wireless web option enabled. Got my cable from cables4pdas.com yesterday, plugged my Visor into my StarTac, called my Earthlink access number, and I was surfing in less than 5 minutes. All it costs me is service minuntes and the price of the cable.
