Bluetooth Springboard getting closer
For those of you who just got to have a Bluetooth Springboard, there has been available for the past several months from WidComm the Platform Development Kit. Currently available for the low low price of $995
.
However, recently their Development Kit Order form changed. It now has on it: Additional Connectivity Solutions, for those who "need additional Bluetooth connectivity for development, testing and/or demonstration". Under which it lists the BlueConnect springboard for $195. This would infer that they are getting closer to releasing this Springboard, since developers can now get additional ones outside of a development kit. Also it infers that the price will be about $195 when it does hit the market.
On the other side, when I browse Xircom's web site I can no longer find any reference to their SpringPort Bluetooth Module. There use to be an image and link on their SpringPort page. I can still however find a few pages using their search engine. This kind of infers that they have killed the project and they are making knowledge of it's existance fade away.

quote:That seems to be their tactic. Venom against VaporGear is typical here historically for things like the SixPack, but at least they had the guts to admit they couldn't come through with it. Xircom just takes the Orwellian tack and tries to expunge all record that something was being developed. They did the same thing with the wired ethernet module.

I've been keeping occasional tabs on Bluetooth and wireless technology, so I think this might provide some answers as to why info on Bluetooth is so sparse...

Damn shame too...

quote:I just received my Volume 5 of the Handspring Add-On & Accessories Catalog (http://handspring.resourceguide.net). On page 13 is an ad from Xircom. At the very end of the ad is a section entitled "Other Xircom Modules" which lists Wireless Data and Bluetooth. So either someone did not update their ad, or they are still working on a Bluetooth module.

Xircom Bluetooth Module
Xircom just dumped the price on their Springboard Modem after being bought out by Intel. I wonder if they are getting out of the Springboard game? I hope not. I was looking forward to the 802.11b module coming down to a reasonable price and picking one up.
