-- Visor --> Ericsson T28 World Phone? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15673)

Question

Has anyone been able to connect the two for internet connectivity on the Visor?

Is it even possible?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can buy the DI28 infra-red adapter for the T28, this is guaranteed to work

You can also go the cable way, but since there is no (AFAIK) ready-made cable, you are almost sure to end up with a headache, and a few useless cables...

I do like cables better then infra red (easier to use while in the car).

has anyone figured out how to make one or where I can buy one?

OK, since both the T28 and Visor serial interfaces operate at TTL levels (0/+5V), you do not need to go through some circuitry to bring these levels to RS232 levels.

Besides, this kind of circuitry which is included in the phone-to-PC cable or Visor serial cable/cradle draws power from the PC, so a connection like the following probably wouldn't work:
T28 <-> T28 RS232 adapter <-> null-modem adapter <-> Visor serial cable or cradle <-> Visor

What you need is a T28 bottom connector, a Visor connector, and some shielded cable with 3 wires. Get the connectors pinout, then just connect Rx to Tx, Tx to Rx, and ground to ground.
The biggest problem is getting the connectors, so you'll probably have to buy the serial cables anyway, just to get the connectors...

If you're unsure how to build the cable, have it done by someone. You may want to check with this guy who makes custom cables: http://www.cables4pdas.com

Okay, I"ll check it out.. but in theory, even if I had a cable, it wouldn't work becuase there is NO modem built into the T28. Correct?

This is correct. You could probably use it to manage SMS at least

ah well. I just bought the DI 28, hopefully it isn't that big!

Hey there,

What's the deal with the built in modem thing? If I had the Visor, T28 and infrared thingy, would I be able to use a browser? I've got voicestream.

Thanks!

Thumbs up Works like a charm!

I use the T28/DI28 combo with my Prism on a daily basis. I highly recommend GSMTool, which will let you manage SMS messages and sync your phonebook (much better than typing in your numbers). I also browse, email, and ftp with the combo daily. Since I have the Bluetooth headset for the T28, I'm waiting for Xircomn to release the Bluetooth SB module, which will let the Prism access the T28 wirelessly. Geek chic to be sure!

I think the T28W is one of the phones for which Xircom makes a wireless data springboard. Yep, Here it is. Kinda expensive, but it would allow you to use the internet connectivity and a Visor keyboard if you were so inclined.
