Cool

Lots of talk about the eyemodule price reduction/rebate... I'm starting to drool! I hadn't really planned on buying one, but at a ceiling price of $100 I'm ready to plunk down some bucks...

except...

I'm not QUITE convinced.

Do you all have any of your eyemodule photos loaded online? Going to eyemodules official site is nice and dandy but I'm too much of a realist to think my pictures would turn out like theirs. I wanna know what the snapshots look like when taken by reg'lar folks. knowutImean, vern?

Please post your eyemodule photo URLs here so we can see. Please!!

You should search the discussion boards for eyemodule. There have been several links to peoples photos.

Uh gee thanks, j762538. I already have read through quite a few eyemodule threads, but as far as I can tell there's no way in the search mechanism to ask for "eyemodule", and posts that included relevant URLs.

I do however, appreciate your effort to help me.

I bought an eyemodule with my Platinum when I saw the rebate at CompUSA where I bought them. I like the convenience of it as I have no other camera at home, but I was hoping for a little better quality in the color format. I might have complained about it if I hadn't gotten the rebate. For the money it's worth it. Sorry I don't have pics online to share

FYI, I was just looking at amazon.com and their price was $99, no rebates or anything, just 99+shipping.

I am waiting on my eyemodule from Amazon to arrive today. Cost was $99 and because I bought by 1/31/01, I get another $40 off by mail-in rebate. The coupon was available online for a while but is hard to find now. Rebate company has confirmed that rebate is valid.

This will be net $59 since shipping is free for a limited time.

You can take a look for yourself:

Shipping is no longer free. I almost did it several times but $63 is still too much for me.

Now if I could just get someone to send me a copy of the eyemodule databases (the .pdb files that go with it) so that I could try eyecontact.

Lightbulb Online Galleries!

Traveliter,

I hunted down a number of personal galleries on the web when I was trying to convince myself I wanted an eyemodule. (It worked.)

Not only did I save the links, but I started a gallery site... and I hope to additionally put up photos from other people (who otherwise can't or don't want to be bothered with messing with the web).

The links to the handful of galleries I referenced the most are already there, and I'd love it if folks could post more! I'm also planning to start an eyemodule users' mailing list and/or forum to trade tips and tricks...

Can you tell I'm in love with this li'l gadget?!

Yeah,
http://lightfantastic.org/eye
... is the best E.M. link I've ever seen, so far.
Still, it mostly confirms everyone's verdict: to get good shots, you need a lot of bright light -- and bright sunlight's the best. (Hmmm ... seems to be only one source for that, too...)
Well...
... I await ver.2 like I think everyone does...

It's now back to $149.99 at amazon with promise of a $50 rebate but the link is just to the $40 rebate I posted a while ago. It's also backordered.

Posted by Ash on 02-01-2001 11:32 PM:

It's now shipping in 24 hours again from amazon, but the price is $149.99. They advertize a $50 rebate but it's still the $40 form. Typical amazon.com.

Posted by Traveliter on 02-02-2001 12:55 AM:

Hi Ash;

Yes, indeed it is now backordered... however I did put in my order earlier this week, and while my eyemodule is backordered, my account shows that I will only be billed $99. I just hope they ship it out well before the February 14th rebate deadline!!

Thumbs up eyemodule backorders

Bummer about the backorder at Amazon. PalmGear is often backordered on the eyemodule too, I've seen. (So much for the "mad dash to clear inventory before v2.0" theory.") But at least with PalmGear, at least, they met their projected fulfillment date and had it to me pretty quickly.

I know this isn't good, but I just leave my eyemodule in my Visor Prism. It still fits in the Handspring sport case that way, and I nab shots anytime with no fiddling!

My EM works as advertised and probably better than I thought! Is a serious memory hog though and often tells me there isn't enough memory left to capture any pics when I know there definitely is enough.

One nifty secret feature is that I can set off certain car alarms by snapping pics in a parking lot. Don't know if its the EM or the IR on the Prism or what, but it is kinda weird.

Posted by eyebrowse on 02-02-2001 05:11 PM:

Exclamation your eyemodule images

That is mighty strange, prismenvy. I wouldn't think car alarms would be IR sensitive - most I've messed with were just hardwired to car bodies and used radio transmitters. I wonder if there's just some crossover between the electrical frequencies (FCC specs and all that) used by the module and the one used by alarms?

And by the way (Traveliter too, when you're fully operational!), if you want to show off any of your eyemodule pics, send 'em to me! My "gallery" could use some contributions besides my own!

Angry

Bleaugh. Every day I go to my account at Amazon.com, and everyday it looks like the shipping date slips. Ick. If this thing doesn't mail out in time for me to get my rebate, I'll be royally bumming... at least I got the original $100 sale price so I am not paying $150, but still...

Lightbulb Rebate fun!

So you're hoping to get the eyemodule for $99 (as it appears you have) and the $50 rebate? Now that's about the price I think folks would be more than happy to pay for this wonderful gadget...

Just FYI, I got an automated e-mail today from the eyemodule rebate fulfillment company, which allows you to log in and see how it's doing, when your check ships, and the like. Pretty cool. I haven't done rebates in a while (save CostCo!), but this is an encouraging application of technology.
