Replace w/silver or graphite?
I'm considering my third VPL replacement due to paint issues. This time it's on the top where the FlipCover hinge makes contact with the top of the VPL and, oddly, also down near the microphone and at a similar point on the right side, which I would imagine is also attributable to the FlipCover (since I haven't had this one in any other case), but I'm not sure. I like to think I'm a fairly benevolent owner...While I don't have a padded case, my VPL always has at least the FlipCover on it and is either on a table or in my pocket (with nothing else sharp in there). But the scratches still appear.
As much as I like the silver color over the graphite, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not just better off replacing this one with a graphite. I bought it in January, so I've still got a few months to decide, but I figured I'd throw the questions out there: since the graphite VPL has become available, have VPL buyers been going for silver or graphite? Have many silver owners swapped theirs for graphite? Is the graphite case is a bit more scratch resistant than the painted silver case?
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll be able to afford a new PDA in the near future, so just replacing it with something different really isn't an option for me right now. The other choices I can think of would be to
a) stick it out with this one or a replacement silver until I get utterly sick of the scratches, and then (assuming I'm past the warranty period) buy a replacement graphite case from gethightech.com (I think that's the vendor with OEM cases), or
b) get a replacement silver case and line the underside of the FlipCover and the appropriate hinge area with felt or something to minimize the chance of new scratches.
Of course, those two aren't necessarily mutually exculsive. Anyone care to provide some guidance?
